3D Blu-ray with SVP
How to play 3D Blu-rays w/o re-encoding using MPC-BE or Daum PotPlayer with SVP frame interpolation.
Setup instructions
- Install Intel Media SDK DLLs
- Get MPC-BE
- Options → Internal filters → Video decoders → check “H264 (MVC 3D)”
- Options → External filters → Add filter → “Avisynth Filter” → Prefer
- Open BD3D and choose one of the following View → Stereo 3D mode values:
- Half OverUnder
- OverUnder — for 4K TV with passive 3D, produces 1920×2160 video frame
- Switch to “3D: over-under stereopair” in SVP — only needed in “Half OverUnder” mode
Go to Video → 3D Video Mode → MVC 3D Output Mode and choose one of the “Synthesized” views. For example for 4K TV choose “TAB at full resolution”.
Warning: the last PotPlayer version that works with SVP is 1.7.21765 (220706). They broke MVC 3D playback in more recent versions, and according to PotPlayer devs, they’re going to remove 3D support completely.
Important notes
- Use 64-bit versions of MPC-BE and SVP components
- For physical BD discs, you need a BD decrypter software installed (e.g. AnyDVD)
- 3D Blu-ray playback is more demanding than regular 1080p — ensure your system can handle it
Frequently asked questions
No. SVP uses mpv as a video encoder and mpv doesn’t support MVC. Real-time playback is the only option.
Make sure you have:
- Intel Media SDK DLLs installed (required for MVC decoding)
- 64-bit version of MPC-BE
- “H264 (MVC 3D)” checked in Internal filters
- “Avisynth Filter” set to Prefer in External filters
For physical BD discs, a BD decrypter is also required.
This means MVC decoding is not active. Ensure Intel Media SDK DLLs are installed and that you’re using PotPlayer version 1.7.21765 or earlier. Newer versions broke MVC 3D support.
If your display accepts 120Hz input, set SVP to 120fps. If it’s limited to 60Hz (like many 4K TVs), use 60fps. SVP will still interpolate to the target frame rate even if the display can’t show all frames.
