(MPC-BE open or not doesn't matter) Click file -> MPC-BE flashes open to instantly crash.
No error message or window.
If Avisynth Filter disabled it doesn't crash.

Hi, recently if Avisynth Filter is checked my player instantly crashes on launch. I do not know what has changed.

I reinstalled MPC-BE and reinstalled SVP saving settings in picture format and manually reentering them.

I know I'm missing something but for the life of me after hours I can't seem to get it to work.

Basically: How should I setup my system to use AVSF if it's not working by default.

Width of top coarse level – for hierarchical search of motion vectors, at different levels different search options are used – particularly, at the last levels (the largest ones), more simple options are used to reduce the CPU load. The smaller this value is, the larger number of high levels will have the lower options.

Honestly, this description is incomprehensible. Can anybody outside of people working directly with the code make sense of this? There are so many adjectives it's impossible to decipher what this really means.

You can reread it 18 times but that last sentence is still impossible to make sense of.

The smaller this value is, the larger number of high levels will have the lower options.

Am I just stupid or is this a brain teaser??

Yea I figured that out and it says they're active.
HOWEVER, if I use the LAV video decoder instead of the ffdshow video decoder SVP will not detect the video.

DXVA2 native does not work with SVP, but that's actually the only decoder that doesn't work with SVP.

DXVA2 copy-back, Intel QuickSync, Nvidia CUVID, and None all work with SVP.

Which should I use then?

I have my Intel iGPU disabled, but I have an Nvidia GPU.

CPU usage is usually around 35-40% but GPU is "maxed" at 83-87% because I'm using madVR. Anything more GPU than 83-87% and I get frame drops so I could benefit by offloading something to the CPU or using a more efficient decoder for the GPU.

I actually don't know how to switch between them. I'm using Shark007 codecs, if I select anything else from what's already selected SVP doesn't activate.

If I select LAV and change the decoder it it says it's active but SVP doesn't detect it.

http://cdn.overclock.net/8/80/80bac5ef_be.png
I tried doing this, but it uses FFDSHOW Raw instead. If I move that down or block it, SVP doesn't detect the video. How can SVP can work without any FFDshow stuff? So far I haven't been able to make that happen.

But I really don't know how this works. That's the downside of Shark007 codecs. It works so well with everything you don't have to fix anything and learn almost nothing. tongue
So I don't know the "chain of operation" of all these settings or even what these things are actually for...

This is really interesting. Especially since I just got the 165Hz IPS Acer AOC XB271HU. (unfortunately it was too damaged on arrival to do anything with sad )
I'll probably be in the same performance bound situation soon though if I try to watch anything at 144Hz or even 168Hz! (If the monitor can do that)..
Perhaps I'll stick with 120Hz for the ULMB during movies though.

I'm not seeing any difference in CPU usage no matter what I do. It's around 35-38%. Then again I have no performance issues with 1080p. 4K is impossible to play for me, pegging all 8 threads at 99%. Maybe that is where I should be testing for now.

Question: Does increasing CPU usage decrease GPU usage or load in any way? By getting higher utilization will I be able to squeeze higher quality settings in anywhere?

Also:

3. In LAVfilters (particularly the one built into MPC-HC if you use that), set your decoder to "DXVA2 (copy-back)"

I was under the impression that SVP could not work with DXVA2 or LAV and required ffdshow... is this not the case? (When using MPC-BE and madVR?)
I must admit, I know far too little i this category.

(I know MPV doesn't need ffdshow, but I don't want to use MPV).

I just realized something!

I said I was using 3x and the graph above assumed that 72 fps was real-time... but I'm using 3x with a 30 fps video, so in this case real-time needs to be 90 fps!

For reference, I run the following refresh rates for the following source video frame rates:

90Hz = 30 fps
96Hz = 24, 48 fps
100Hz = 20, 25, 50 fps
120Hz = 60 fps

...you do realize that "Auto" threads gives different amounts of threads on different CPUs, right?  Auto will give you more threads on a 4-thread CPU than it will on a 2-thread CPU.

I have reason to believe that, on my 2-thread CPU, Auto gives you 5 threads, so therefore it would be very likely that both of your CPUs are given at least 7 threads when using "Auto".  Considering the jump in performance that can be gotten by using 7 threads, it's no surprise that you are not seeing the performance bottleneck that I am seeing with "Auto".

0 is auto correct?

So if I'm using an 8 thread 4790k at 4.7GHz and going to 96Hz... what should auto be setting?
Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing or setting the wrong thing, but under Thread Count here: https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/SVP:Technical_insights
it says I should be using CPU Threads * 1.8 = threads, which would be 14.4...

The setting I'm changing is just below GPU > id11.

An alternative to Reclock is also needed now since the reclock devs choose to support bloatware rather than create a 64 bit build.

It seems there's up to 1ms higher render times using 64-bit, system memory usage went from around 3100mb to 3600mb, vram usage is pretty much unchanged.

Uhhhh, wrong thread?

Nobody in here was having issues with SVP using too much CPU, rather it was just the opposite...

I get good usage with these settings on an i5 AND i7.

SVP has a limit, it won't use more and more and more if you keep giving it more powerful hardware. The settings top out. I know you're talking about efficiency of usage here with the threads and all, but I'm just saying I have zero problem running these settings on a range of hardware.

Try this,

Balanced for fluidity whilst minimizing artifacts.
4790k @ 4.7GHz, GTX 770 @ 1320MHz
MadVR used as well. 1080p > 1440p 96Hz too. (Yay!)

You should try to OC your CPU some more and get a custom bios for your GPU.
http://www.simforums.com/forums/haswell … 46180.html

I'll give you my madVR settings if you want too. Make sure to enable smooth motion always or else you'll get frame drops though.
Often only one or two tweaks are required when using these configs on different hardware, more or less powerful.

Why you need admin rights for SVP and for the player?

I don't need it for the player, it makes no difference for that. The problem is, if SVP is NOT running as admin and I launch a video with the program "Everything 1.4.0.713b" then I recieve this error from SVP:

Access to the video player is denied, is it running with Administrator privileges?

So I ran SVP as admin and it fixed that issue, BUT now if I launch a video WITHOUT "Everything 1.4.0.713b" I get a DIFFERENT error from SVP telling me to do the opposite!

Error communicating with video player, maybe SVP is running with administrator privileges?

The only way to fix that is to run SVP NOT as admin, which gives me the first error again.

So either way I lose!

But with SVP 3.1 worked well this way

I bet SVP 3 was running as admin too...
Don't know now why "SVP 4 as admin" + "player as admin" didn't work for you.

Hi, I have the same issue! If I run it as admin, I get an error that it cannot communicate with the video player. I'm assuming this error was made for this problem?

But why does it occur in the first place? Doesn't running as admin REMOVE restrictions???

EDIT: Here's the issues going on. http://www.voidtools.com/forum/viewtopi … 974#p13974
Hopefully this will provide some insight as to the causes.
There are two separate, similar error messages that are triggered under different circumstances.

When SVP4 is run NOT AS ADMIN and launched with the program called Everything I get THIS error message:

Access to the video player is denied, is it running with Administrator privileges?

Running SVP4 AS ADMIN and launching with Everything does not make an error!

BUT, if I launch the video manually while SVP4 is running AS ADMIN I get this error message:

Error communicating with video player, maybe SVP is running with administrator privileges?

I'm sorry you don't understand this.

Yea, because in case you haven't noticed victor4one, Chainik and the other devs are dealing with a launch of their first paid software to thousands of donators, the mass of bug reports and suggestions that have come in on the forums and through the software, FIXING those bugs, AND having to move their server ALL AT ONCE!!

Give them a break man, they're not trying to screw you over or be unfair, they're just ACTUALLY THAT BUSY that they can't quote themselves constantly to answer the same questions over and over. You're not the first to ask and I'm sure you won't be the last. People don't read.
I understand the frustration over the pricing and limits. I HATE PAYING, AND I HATE LIMITS TOO! I torrent almost everything. SVP4 is one of the six pieces of software I have bought in my life. Think about that. If a "degenerate" like me values this software enough to pay, anyone else should be able to see the work they are putting into this and how they take the users suggestions seriously. SVP4's goal is to be BETTER. Every choice they make has that goal in mind, so if something is not "better" it is brought to their attention and MADE BETTER. This is what you're really doing, you're trying to help make it better because you have an issue, but you're letting your frustration get in the way. Relax, we've all got the same goal in mind. smile

Ahh, right! Figured it might not be SVP since I haven't seen anyone else have this problem. :\ Thanks for helping me identify the problem!
Looked at my GPU and it had errors in the device manager and couldn't run it. Since then I've tried a clean install of the drivers a couple different ways. I even tried a new graphics card in my computer to see if maybe it's not the graphic card's fault and it still had the errors even with a completely different card. The problem seems to be the motherboard.

Going to try to resolve this issue and then see if SVP 4 runs smoothly.

You did run DDU though correct? It's extremely important.
To give you an example, I once had two AMD cards in my system, the stuttering was so bad that I switched back to my Nvidia card, but then my Nvidia card didn't work right either, having tons of crashes, black screens, line artifacts, and just crazy glitches in general. I discovered DDU and ran it and it fixed everything. I had uninstalled the AMD driver so there was no reason why it would affect the Nvidia driver, or so I thought. Give it a shot if you haven't already!

The Avisynth available at http://www.svp-team.com/files/gpl/avisy … .8-svp.zip is not an installer. How is it supposed to be used then? Exactly where do you put it? I'd like to zip it up with SVP 3.1.7a and archive it for the future with the latest AviSynth. I'd previously just been using "Avisynth 2.5.8" from the same place which had an installer.
It's not obvious either, there are two different Avisynth install filters, Avisynth and Avisynth 2.5.8, which does this apply to? Is it older than what comes with SVP4? Should any avisynth.dll files inside it be moved to SysWOW64? I have no idea...

I did something like that only difference is frame width & height values but this isn't disable completely avisynth script, only disables interpolation..

brucethemoose wrote:

You mean automatically, instead of just pressing the button in the interface?

You should be able to add a little Avisynth resolution check that skips the SVP script above certain resolutions. I don't know what the syntax would look like, but you'd add it in the Avisynth section in the FFDShow raw video filter menu.

I'll try...

Interesting! I'd report that as a bug.

May I have a copy of that high-contrast theme?  I know all too well about software that doesn't work correctly with Windows' normal high-contrast theme.

I've been waiting for this day. big_smile

They've finally recognized my brilliant retro design! haha

Here's the current revision which I'm quite happy with.  I MAY tweak the hue or brightness slightly in the future, though most likely the selected text background will get tweaked if I tweak anything further. I've been running this for a few months now so it's pretty much final. I have an beta versions of red and blue variants I've been experimenting with as well. Some day I'll make a whole bunch of colors and make a thread for High Contrast Themes on Overclock.net. That's the best place for contact BTW. I'm there daily.

Anyway, here you go! Everything except my Experimental "Twilight Beach" which needs some more demo time before going live. The rest work identically to the official black theme, that is to say horribly.
Since it's a theme, I included my 1440p Space backgrounds in PNG (so windows doesn't f them up as much). Collected from a few different sets and trimmed down to only the best, then ordered and mixed optimally for a good transition without repetitiveness.
No themes are on by default, you'll have to drop the folder somewhere and make them backgrounds.

Is it possible to use GPU acceleration on SVP4 with newest nvidia drivers in win10 or still is a no go ?

AFAIK this issue is something that is purely on Nvidia's side of things and not SVP.  Basically Nvidia really dropped the ball on Windows 10 drivers, especially compared to AMD and Intel's Win10 drivers.

Really?? I didn't know it was that bad! Good thing I didn't switch yet...

Has Nvidia Acknowledged the issue? If not we may be able to get attention if we all file bug reports. Make a sticky here and in doom9 to start filing about it. That should get their ass in gear very quickly.

Our side is China, svp4 if you still want to download online, rather than a one-time download of the software, we will be a headache.

This's a good point... May be a little bit later after the release we'll make a standalone installer.

Not SVP 4 Pro vs Free (because they should be performing the same as long as they're both the same build number).

I have been very impressed with SVP 4 Free thus far anyway. Looking forward to the PRO, I know they have their hands full right now, so I'll just wait my turn.

Yes 3.1.7 VS 4.0.0.46 (Pro)

They're probably rolling them out in waves or with a delay in between to avoid overloading the server.
