Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

I don't know how to use rife models that are not on original svp app. Therefore i can only use 4.6 4.9 and the earlier versions of rife that can be found in svp app. I also want to ask what the maximum percentage for scene change threshold is? I am using it on 30 percent.

How do I update to the latest version of RIFE for live conversion?

A simple list of instructions would be wonderful, thank you smile

The brilliant SVP developers made it extremely easy to install.
First you update SVP to latest version by right clicking it from task bar --> Utilities --> Additional programs and features... --> Update components --> Next >
https://gyazo.com/1702ec66e0a1210c4f4d25fdfbe34aeb
Then you download latest RIFE from the bottom of the page here:
https://github.com/AmusementClub/vs-mlr … nal-models
Currently the latest one is this 2 days ago archive:
https://gyazo.com/637173b715eac98073928e66946ef256
Then you copy the contents of the folder from the archive into this SVP folder ("C:\Program Files (x86)\SVP 4\rife\models\"):
https://gyazo.com/b2de1180de4f68b82d333c9eee5e60f2
How the files should look if copied correctly:
https://gyazo.com/2f640fe54815c061392cd0760dc37624
Please restart SVP. If done correctly, you should be able to select the new version from the AI model list.
Enjoy!

Why does my SVP screen does not show "engine" or "performance boost"?
Also I tried this and i have the files on location like in screenshots. but the dropdown box in SVP doesnt show any new option...

I use the same 3-8 movies  scenes to check for panning smoothness and artefacts. I've tried SCT set to anywhere between 1 and 20% and 12% is the best balance I've found between artefacts and smoothness, especially with Rife 4.9 and above. I  think I will play around between 13 and 15% for future testing.

- Uninstall SVP completely.
- Reboot your machine
- Follow the instructions on this page https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/RIFE_AI_interpolation.
- Choose Rife 4.9 or if your GPU has problems then choose Rife 4.6.

because you haven't installed RIFE trt. there are 2 RIFE versions in SVP

1. RIFE NCNN or generic, which can run on AMD/NVIDIA card but slow

2. RIFE TRT (most of ppl here using it) only run on NVIDIA cards and is faster a lot than RIFE NCNN

It depends on the content actually, animation should pick a high number while the real scenes should pick a lower number.

in my case, I disabled the scene change threshold and picked the RIFE version that has fewer artifacts.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Sooo... I've been happily using the old 4.6 for a while. Is there any reason to try the newer ones? It seems like based on the last few pages, the newer models are more demanding which my 3090 ain't gonna be happy about.

Also, I did a fresh Windows install and copied over my old rife cache files... but they don't work. I notice the name is slightly different now.

Anyone know what changed?

New file name:
rife_v4.6.onnx.3840x1920_fp16_no-tf32_trt-8502_cudnn_I-fp16_O-fp16_NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3090_3dcbe72f.engine

Old file name:

aloola wrote:

Scene change threshold - check if two adjacent frames are in different scenes or not, i.e. the frames are the same (but slightly moved) or completely different. If yes then there's no interpolation between these frames. Higher values gives more interpolation artifacts when scene change was not detected. Lower values give more "stuttering" (i.e. repeated frames instead of interpolated) when there was a false detection.

Noob here. I see that setting it 0% it just outputs the source movie (no interpolation at all so of course no artifacts cause it literally only plays the original video).
So if we want max smoothness + max RIFE artifacts to "disable the scene change threshold" you recommend we should set it from 15% to 100% (rife_sc setting in Application Settings) ?
Which old RIFE version that has fewer artifacts you picked for now ?

P.S. OMG setting "Scene change threshold" to 100% makes the video look amazing just like the old "Uniform (max fluidity)" setting from https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Manual:FRC
Why did nobody mention this before? Will only use this from now on. Many thanks!

Woah, I switched SCT to 100% and ya, can't really see any artifacts and sudden camera moves seem almost perfectly smooth on default 4.9.

I checked with my test files and anything over 15 gives a similar or the same effect for me which is basically what I have seen before. The major fast motion artefacts are still there, but this time I did see an improvement to a minor artefact.  So for now I've set mine to 20 and will see how it goes.  It would be interesting to see what the Devs think about setting to a 100.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Here's an easy trick to make RIFE run smoothly at a constant 240 frames per second on low-end graphics cards:

You can adjust the "resize" setting by following the instructions at https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Manual:All_settings
This setting allows you to specify the frame size resolution for all the videos you watch.

Try setting it to values like:
-1 (your current screen size)
-19201080 (1920x1080 pixels)
-12800720 (1280x720 pixels)
-10240576 (1024x576 pixels)
-06400480 (640x480 pixels)

By doing this, RIFE will play your 4K video in the resolution that your low-end graphics card can handle, ensuring smooth playback without any frame drops.
Check out this example: https://gyazo.com/2926178b497605f8a71cd3780d514bf0

4.12 is best for animation, the lite model is slightly worse than 4.12 but performs better.

I'll stick with 4.12. Why does gpu usage go up with newer versions. It uses %95 percent of my gpu for x3 on 1080p with downscaling to 720p and upscale it to 1080p with anime4k. I use 3070.

I'm using 3070, v2 doesn't work at all for me, while normal one gives me a lot of stutter, I have to switch back to 4.9. I think you can just try both and see how they work.

For live video the Rife 4.12 handles some fast motion better but for the most part you won't notice a difference compared to Rife 4.9. So depending on what you are doing, most users shouldn't bother with Rife 4.12. I know with my workload even a 3090ti would struggle.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Has RIFE become any faster? Do you still need a 4090 to go from 4k24 to 4k120 in realtime, without the use of TensorRT pre-caching? Or is a less powerful card good enough now? I'm considering a 4070Ti but am concerned that just won't be fast enough for RIFE 4k24 to 4k120.

No it's not becoming faster. After v4.6, Rife is effectively becoming slower because the models are getting bigger and more compute intensive. Rife v4.6 is about 20% faster than v4.9 which is about 20% faster than v4.12.

Guess I'll wait and save for the 5090 then. Currently on a 4-year old 1660Ti which can barely handle SVP+MadVR 1080p60, and then my Sony A95K TV interpolates it to 120fps. No point in getting anything less that can't handle RIFE 4k120.

Interesting. I found 9.1 to use a bit more of everything with no obvious improvements and the Dev notes seem to confirm my findings.. I think 9.2 just a fix for the crashing issues but let us know what you find.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

After a bit more experimentation I've found that Rife v4.12 with  SC=7.15 works best for my VR setup so far. It is the best balance I've found between fast movement and slow panning. Reducing SC like this make the fast action a little less smooth with occasional repeated frames, but still clearer overall because the artefacts are gone. With the most recent builds of mpv I am able to match my VR fps using Fixed 60fps so maybe that helps. It seems to reduce GPU usage as well which I assume is because it's not interpolating as many frames.

Rife v4.13 is out. No obvious difference with v4.12 for me, maybe others will find something. They've also re-released Rife v4.7-4.12. No major differences found with v4.9.

Is this something we need to wait for a SVP build to get? The seek hanging has annoyed me for ages.

Also, is there anything that can be done to get rid of the 1-2 second stutter at the start of video playback? (playback starts for like half a second then I lose all frames for about half a second on ncnn/Vulkan but 1-2 full seconds on TRT) I've never been able to resolve this when SVP 4 is enabled with MPC-HC. If I disable SVP 4 it stops happening.

Fyi.. just got VLC working and it does the same stutter on starting a video, so it's not related to just MPC-HC.

Performance boost enabled gets rid of this afaik, provided there is a cache file already.
