Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Hello everyone,

I have a question.
I am trying to reverse engineer svp 4 pro to implement VS DRBA
https://github.com/routineLife1/VS-DRBA

If you have any ideas on how to easily implement it from either base.py, generate.js, vsmlrt.py, or another level of the image generation pipeline,

I would be curious to have some information on how the software works precisely or how to incorporate it as a module, as is already the case for svpflow1/2 in the plugin file.

I know that I have managed to hard code it in generate. js to activate vs drba, but I would like to be able to keep the option of selecting in the svp 4 pro UI if I want image interpolation with Rife TRT, SVP FLOW, or ncnn.
I would like to better understand the links between the different levels of the pipeline and the files between them.

I was able to modify some files to have variables that come before base.py and vsmlrt.py. I think this is feasible; it's a small challenge.

If the developers are interested in helping me, I am available.

I am uploading my files and images to show the progress of this.

Progress as of October 13, 2025
Here's what I've done so far thanks to Claude 4.5. I'll continue later.

Has HAGS improved enough that you no longer recommend turning it off for RIFE?
What’s the current advice — keep it on unless it causes stutter, or disable it for smoother playback?

Depends on operation system, for me, as Windows 10 user, turning off HAGS improves realtime playback (faster seek) and transcoding speeds about 10% average!
Stutters depends on GPU drivers, for me, 565.90 stable is the smoothest driver ever tested!

As @RickyAstle98 said, it depends on your setup. I get massive stutters but others users with similar setups have no issues.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Has anyone tried this with a Radeon RX 9060 XT? If so what is the performance? The wiki says in order to interpolate videos in 1080p 60fps you need a RTX 3080 which I believe is better card than RX 9060 XT but I would like to know if someone has actually tested this.

THIS is mostly for NV cards, bacause generic Vulcan RIFE is 2 times slower than RIFE for TensorRT

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

I don't know why but I always get stutters when playing DV files with SVP RIFE, no matter the player, decoder or video renderer, and it's not because the GPU or CPU usages are maxed.
And the weird thing is that they are always in the exact same place.

For example in this little sample video ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nul0-B … sp=sharing ), I always get a visible stutter at 00:00:11, just at this exact place:

https://i.postimg.cc/PJqq8m0J/image.png

Can you test if this also happens to you, at this exact point, or is your playback perfectly smooth?

SVP repeats frames at the points where DV color data changes.
There's no way to "interpolate" DV frame colors and meta data, which can be completely different in adjacent frames even inside single scene.

Ah, damn it. I was going crazy thinking something weird was wrong with my system.

Sure there isn't any possible way to fix this? for example this isn't a problem using LosslessScaling interpolation, but of course, its quality isn't as good as RIFE and despite being perfectly smooth it shows more artifacts.

nope. pixel colors are different in an adjacent frames.
colors get fixed at the rendering stage only, by applying DV metadata to the pixel colors.
and SVP works _before_ rendering

Not sure if this will be useful to you, but I measured performance with the 9070XT. Here are the results for transcoding a random stock video using different versions of RIFE, of course only at x2. Overall, for FHD, that’s more than enough.

RIFE also worked fine on the 5700XT, but the maximum resolution was only about 1520×855. smile

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

BTW I've just seen someone running SVP with my settings. The RTX 4080 runs at around 100% on my machine. The 5090 runs the same settings at 38%!!!

Wow, that is insane haha

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Hello, I'm trying to get RIFE optimized for my setup in MPC-HC with vapoursynth. I'm running an i9-9900KS with an RTX 3080 Ti, targeting 4k (24fps) sources for realtime playback with whatever gains I can get out of my hardware. I honestly have not had much luck(video verrrrry sluggish) with realtime 4k playback even with very conservative settings, but I have been reading the heavy gains a few folks have seen with some newer models and settings tweaks. Right now I have SVP up to date with RIFE set to the 4.25 model. Not trying to do the impossible, just seeing if I can get more out of the hardware I do have, but understanding that with 4k these kinds of things are extremely demanding even on the latest gen hardware. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

@Chainik, what happened to new update? The mpv update broken, prevents filters usage.

Or just put download link to 0.40.0-290 please?

I've been using my own mpv version for a few years. The current svp version of mpv is well behind more recent builds which helps to fix issues with modern srgb and gamma2.2 displays. This especially helps with near black issues.

I need 290 lmao, some VF filters ignored in 291 build, cant find this build in internet.

Update: I FIX ISSUE MYSELF AGAIN.

ok, I assume there're no problems with the current build then
