I'm probably one of the few desktop users that overclocks on an Intel CPU without a discrete GPU, so I use the integrated Intel graphics.  The problem is that most CPU+GPU stress tests don't seem to support Intel graphics and/or expect discrete graphics (ROG RealBench comes to mind).

In my experience, it seems that SVP is suprisingly good as a system stability tester, partially due to its heavy use of the CPU and GPU, but even then it can catch instability when the likes of Prime95 + Furmark will run without errors.  The issue though is that it can be a bit difficult to get SVP to use your CPU and GPU at full-tilt, since maxing out the performance of, say, the CPU usually bottlenecks the GPU and vice-versa.

Therefore I think it could be useful to have a specific stress-test mode in SVPmark that specifically runs in a way that it puts a full load on the CPU and the GPU without either being bottlenecked.

Speaking of 64bit, I was going to say that now all we need is a 64bit-compatible version of Livestreamer, but it seems that such a thing got implemented sometime in the last year or so... (around a year ago, it wasn't able to launch 64bit MPC-HC).

It's my understanding that Panasonic and Sony have very good implementations that even include optional black-frame insertion.

Also, special mention to LG's OLED TVs since they have rediculously low pixel response time, though they lack black-frame insertion (doesn't seem to be the fault of the panel since even their LCDs lack it); therefore the rumored Panasonic TV with an LG OLED panel may be the ultimate choice if money was of no concern (assuming the input lag is good).

Interesting, I just went through every single video and it seems that different sessions are recorded/uploaded from different sources, so some have native 25fps and others have 25--in->30fps...

Anyway, all of the qualifyings are 25--in->30fps as are all the races other than the first 2 races.


Oh, another thing to mention that I thought of: 30/60--in->24fps and even 30/60--in->25fps; these are something you find with videogame footage at times.

EDIT: Is suggesting a "fix" for 20--in->30fps a bit too much?  A good example of this is the two Zelda games on the N64 where they only rendered at 20fps in-game (though menus and splash-screens were 30fps).

It should noted however that a 25fps source that's been resampled to 24fps via dropping a frame can't really be solved via avisynth and/or re-encoding since the solution would involve interpolating an extra frame in an attempt to re-create the dropped frame.

If you take a video that was originally 25fps but was encoded at 30fps, then every 5 frames you will have a doubled frame.  A 24fps video encoded at 30fps is similar.

This isn't too too noticable vs a native 25fps video if you're displaying them on a 60hz display anyway, but if you're running them through SVP @ 90fps then heck yeah is the judder noticable.


Also relevent would be 25fps content resampled to 24fps where a frame has been removed, where once every second you can have a small sudden jump fowards during pans or the like.


Would it be possible to have some sort of "fix" in SVP for such a thing, whether it's automatic or manual?

Simply put, if there is a unicode character or symbol in the file/folder path of the program EXE (such as East Asian characters or similar), then when it tries to run the real-world benchmark they just fail to run.

And for reference, my OS's unicode settings are set for Japanese if that makes any difference.

...you know that you don't have to wait for the entire graph to go off-screen, right?  Just have no or minimal CPU usage for a few seconds and the average measurement will be smart enough to seperate the two "sessions".

When you say performance, are you purely talking about SVP's interpolation or does that include stuff like an updated MPC-HC and/or LAVfilters?

FYI, MPC-HC v1.7.8 uses an LAV revision a bit earlier than the stable v0.64, so it may be wise to replace MPC-HC's built-in LAVfilters with said stable 0.64 version.  For reference, the ZIP release versions of LAV are perfectly compatible with MPC-HC to the point that you can delete all the files in MPC-HC's "LAVFilters" folder and replace it with the contents of the LAV ZIP archive and everything will work perfectly fine.

Yeah, so what SVP does is that any video of a higher resolution and the like will use that profile, and your PC may not be able to handle it then.

The only thing is, if you play back anything higher than that profile, it'll still be applied and your PC may not be albe to handle it (like 1440p or 4k video, or maybe 60fps).

Well for one thing, Kepler isn't all that great at GPU-compute...heck at times it's worse than Fermi.

That wouldn't by chance be the reason you had gotten that 290, would it?  Because indeed it certainly has good GPU-compute performance.

Well when did you buy it though?  Personally if I bought one now only for it to cost 40% to 50% less in 3 months, I'd be pretty annoyed with myself.

Then again, I'm someone that used a lowly AMD E-350 for 5 months after my AM2+ mobo died until I got the MicroCenter $90 (after rebate) G3258 + mobo bundle, and that was largely because my friend was giving me some DDR3 RAM for free (one module was bad but it had a lifetime warranty - he just didn't want to hassle with an RMA).
