Topic: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Many people already upgraded to Windows 10 experience issues with SVP.

The most frequent one is because of latest NVIDIA video drivers.

If you faced hangs and/or crashes of MPC-HC first thing to do is to switch hardware decoder in LAV Video Decoder from "NVIDIA CUVID" to "DXVA2 (copy-back)" (please refer to http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/SVP:MPC-HC for details).

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

I am using win 10 potplayer with Nvidia Cuvid decoder,it will hangs when the OpenCL is active, and no such problem when I deactive OpenCL.

After many times test, I found the problem was related to Nvidia video drivers.

before drivers 347.88,the OpenCL version was 1.1,everything will working fine.
since drivers 350.12,the OpenCL version update to 1.2 it will hangs whne u using with with Nvidia Cuvid decoder.

it seem  that openCL 1.2 and SVP can't fit on win10 with with Nvidia Cuvid decoder

In short,if you want to use potplayer with Nvidia Cuvid decoder and SVP(OpenCL active) on win 10,pls try drivers 347.88 smile

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Does this mean that SVP will need to come up with a method that allows OpenCL 1.2 and it to interact without crashing?

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

I tried the first set of nvidia drivers that came out for Win10 and had no luck, upgraded to 355.60 and still no luck.  I've tried everything mentioned here and I can't get svp to work without freezing/crashing on Win10.

I even tried the new svp 4 test version and that didn't work either.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Or go back to 8/8.1/7
People have a year to upgrade to W10 and by then it should be fixed.
It's always a risk to jump right into a new OS just when it's released _ what's the rush ?
I'm keeping my HTPC on 8.1 for a while until things settle down _ or I may never change.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Yea I normally don't rush into it but I was bored and decided to see how well the upgrade would do (I've never done an upgrade, always fresh installs) but to my surprise it worked well and all my stuff worked besides SVP. I'll survive without it for a while although I do miss it big_smile.   I am surprised that I wasn't able to get the svp 4 working at all either, anybody else try it yet?

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

I think SVP4 works with W10 _ I did one laptop and it seems to work fine.
If you want a fresh install of W10, go to Microsoft where you can download the ISO file of W10 (make sure and pick the right version, if you need a link I can dig it up for you).
As you may know there is an application in W10 to refresh your PC, but you need a W10 install disc.
You can have it wipe everything or leave your files in tact. It will tell you what will be saved and what will need re-installed.

My upgrade worked OK too except for one problem, the Intel WiFi kept loosing it's connection, I went to Intel and installed the driver for W10 and it seems fine now.
This is on a Dell Alien-Ware laptop.

With SVP4, you must disable SVP3 and tell it to stop running automatically at boot up _ then reboot.
Install SVP4 and reboot.
It should work then...  wink

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

SVP4 works fine with Windows 10. Just don't enable GPU acceleration.

Where do I disable GPU acceleration?

Thank you, doesn't seem to have fixed my issue, gonna roll back, if that doesn't work, got to assume I am doing something wrong.

EDIT: Rolled back to OpenCL 1.1, still same issue, must be something on my end.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

SVP OPEN CL in WIN10 with LAV CUVID cause the player (MPCHC) to freeze. If I disable GPU acceleration everything works fine. Are you on this guys? NVIDIA CUVID is important because is the only way I can do HW deinterlace. DXVA2-CB deinterlacing made by MadVR in video mode unfortunately for unknown reasons doesn't get along very well with SVP...

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

DDU worked for me, uninstall your display driver with DDU and reinstall the last NVIDIA drivers and it should work.

I had to do this every damn build of windows 10 to make SVP work normally with OpenCL.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

I've tried many different versions installed w/o DDU, with or without "clean installation" selected in NV's app.
All pre-350 drivers (== OpenCL 1.1) work fine, all post-350 (== OpenCL 1.2) drivers hang.

GTX 750 + Win10 release

Someone should post a bug report to NV's support at last big_smile

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

OpenCL on WIN10 is unfortunately somewhat broken:

Unfortunately it did't work for me. In my case CUVID deadley freezes the player under SVP 3.1.7 OPENCL. Can you please try with SVP 3.1.7 and report back? Thanks smile

P.S: Why do you have VLC icon while using MPCHC??

P.S.II: In your "proof" I don't see SVP menu which shows OPENCL is activated big_smile

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Yeah, so instead of crying on all forums over the Internet we should ask NV directly wink

There was a quite similar issue two (three ?) years ago with AMD by the way, with Radeon 69xx series cards...
AFAIR it took half an year for them to fix broken OpenCL.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Since to me OPENCL is like chinese (or russian smile) maybe YOU developers should be the first to ask Nvidia and if they don't listen maybe find another route to make YOUR software work with their cards? wink

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

nope
customer support is for customers (surprise!)
more angry customers will claim about "your shitty cards don't work in my favorite video player" - more chances it'll be resolved...

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

is it deleted already? o_O

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Unbelievable, they erased it like a spam mad. I can assure you that it was polite and everything... Looks like it takes years for them to fix the issues but only seconds to delete unwanted requests!

"Plan A" seems to be failed, is there any "Plan B"? big_smile

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

Hi all, I experienced this issue (MPC-HC freezes soon after starting playback if GPU acceleration is active).
It seems that nVidia has removed CUDA support from the Win10 driver.

Simple solution: Download and install the CUDA developer package from https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads.

You can then use full GPU acceleration.
I unchecked the Samples and the Visual Studio Integration during installation to save space.
Hope this helps someone else experiencing the same.

Re: Windows 10 - video player hangs and/or crashes

It doesn't explain why "dxva"+"opencl" and "cuvid"+"cpu" still works while "civud"+"opencl" does not.
But I'll check your solution, thanks smile
