Topic: High-end computer, "High CPU load at idle"

Hello everybody, I have a problem that I'm not sure where to start to fix. I've tried to search for other people facing similar issues, but it's surprisingly rare, and are either ancient or on Windows 8.

I have a i5-3570k overclocked to 4.4GHz, 2x AMD 7850 2GBs in crossfire(and overclocked), and 8GB of 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24 dual-channel DDR3 Ram.

But every time I start SVP, it tells me that "High CPU load at idle. SVP Manager failed to measure performance level." and closes. Doesn't matter if any video is running or not, so I can't get into any settings whatsover. My actual CPU load at idle is about 30%.

I'm using stock, unmodified MPC-HC 1.7.2, and SVP 3.1.5. Re-installs did not help.

I know I'm not giving much, but I'm not sure which files/logs/diagnostics I should provide you guys with. Please let me know here and I'll most happily get them.

Show your log-file (C:\ProgramData\SVP 3.1\Logs\Log.txt).

SVP Manager can not measure your GPU performance because of high CPU load.
You must see the message in that case:

Did you?

SVP must be closed if you press Cancel button but it must work further when you press Retry. The message will appear only at first run and you should answer Retry any time you asked (by one time for CPU and by one time for each GPU). Then SVP will measure your performance and copy necessary profile files to settings folder.

BTW, 30% CPU load in idle is not a normal for SVP use. What process loads your CPU so much (see it in task manager, Details tab)?

Thank you for your assistance, my problem has been fixed.

Never realised that ~30% was actually not a normal idle usage figure! Shame on me lol

After investigating, it was PresentationFontCache.exe causing the high usage, and from there on it was easily solved.

Learnt something new today, thanks once again!  smile
