Topic: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

I've been tweaking SVP for the past 6 hours now, and I just can't get it tuned correctly.

In slow scenes, it looks perfect, but once things really start moving faster everything just starts becoming skippy and choppy.

I'm testing this with Avengers on Blu-Ray

My PC is
i5-3570k at 4.5ghz
16gb ram 1600mhz
256gb SSD Samsung 830
ASUS GTX 670 OC'd 130%

can someone tell me the trick or how to get it set correctly? I was expecting to it to look just like TruMotion does on TV's, and It just won't work.

Did you try to use Frame interpolation mode: Uniform?

P.S.
How many dropped frames pointed in madVR statistics (Ctrl-J) after 5 minutes of playing in fullscreen with SVP?

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

My current settings are as follows

Uniform
11b. By Block
To Screen Refresh
12px. Average 2
By Two with local refinement
Large
Half Pixel
Average
Disabled
Repeat Frame
To Screen size
blend unchecked.

I ran the test in the Avengers action scene and over 5 minutes it dropped 39 frames.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

My current settings... Uniform
Good.

dropped 39 frames
It is not bad. Ideal is 0. But you need to reset this number after fullscreen play start by Ctrl-R.

If smoothness not enough for you then you need to customize file override.js. Remove double slash (//) from these lines and point new values:

smooth.scene.limits.scene        = 2000;
smooth.scene.limits.zero         = 100;
smooth.scene.limits.blocks       = 51;
analyse.main.penalty.lambda      = 0.6;
analyse.main.penalty.plevel      = 1.7;
analyse.main.penalty.lsad        = 4000;

It is custom values by gaunt from this Russian topic.
Some places of scene change can be missed by SVP and you can see morphing of pictures in such places.

About these parameters you can read at SVPflow plugin description page.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

change it, not sure if it did anything.

dropped frames went down to only 17 this time.

It's still doing the slide show effect during any faster than normal movements. It's almost like it only plays frame 1, skips 2, then plays frame 3.

and during these scenes, it doesn't say any frames dropped.

Looks like trouble of frame-painting by your monitor.

What you see if press Ctrl-Win-T and switch to fullscreen mode?
Orange line moves smoothly and evenly?

Please show your additional information from SVP tray menu - Information.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

did that test, the orange line doesn't change shape or skip ahead.
it does appear to being moving smoothly.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

Milenko2121
Thank you for information. I can't see any cause of "choppy" video.

Try to change:
- SVP shader to 23.
- Motion vectors grid to 16 px.
- Decrease grid step to By two with local.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

changing svp to 16px actually made it worse

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

Milenko2121
Maybe. It is value form gaunt's post.

What monitor do you use to watch video with SVP (CRT / LCD / DLP / Projector)?

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-W2753V-PF-lcd-monitor

LCD

and before gaunt's adjustment, it had made it worse before.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

Milenko2121
I see. It is TN LCD monitor. Usual monitor. Nothing special. SVP must work.

Please download this 60fps video: http://www.svp-team.com/files/demo/space_60.mkv
Run it and compare smoothness visually. You can exit SVP while play this file.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

that video plays very smooth, no hiccups or skipping.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

Milenko2121
Good.

Then try to change splitter for your mkv-file.
I know three variants:
- Haali matroska
- LAV
- MPC Gabest

Test smoothness by playing Avengers with SVP.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

how do i change splitters?

i'll have to continue this tomorrow, i'm gonna knock out for the night.

thanks for all your help so far.

Re: Can't get SVP to look good(too choppy)

Milenko2121
I could be wrong. But I remember such problems with LAV DXVA Copy-back decoder.
Check please what is in your case writed here?

In MPC-HC while playing menu Play - Filters - LAV Video Decoder:

http://www.svp-team.com/forum/misc.php?item=2226

Choose decoder CUVID as shown at the picture - OK, reopen video.

About splitter. What splitter do you see in the menu Play - Filters?

http://www.svp-team.com/forum/misc.php?item=2227

If you see there Haali too then you need not to change it.
