Hi there, I'll try to keep it brief. I use Ubuntu linux on all computers other than my gaming/media computer. I am ready to drop windows entirely now that linux gaming is nearing windows performance level.

In addition to gaming, I watch movies on my computer using Plex for Windows and SVP. I do this more often than I game, so it's really important to me that I be able to find a drop-in replacement for linux.getting over it

I have recently discovered that there is now a native Plex Desktop Linux player. My question is basically, can SVP work with Plex for Linux? I've tried to search this every way I can think of, however since the player and the server share a name (Plex) and the server is 100x more popular, I am not finding results.

Thanks for any answers or hints. I have an AMD graphics card if that matters. I would also be open to using Jellyfin Media Player.

SVP can work with Plex Media Player (PMP) on Linux, but not with Plex for Linux, which is a different application. PMP is a discontinued software that can still be downloaded from the Plex archive.

Can you link instructions for this? Also why doesn't Plex for Linux work with SVP?

Hey, I recently bought a 170hz monitor.
What fps should I interpolate the videos to? Should I run the monitor at 168hz so it's a multiple of 24?

It works now! Thank you! big_smile

Hey, I reinstalled SVP (picked every package despite some of them probably not needed). Mpv plays at high frame rate, I am able to transcode a video with the svp transcoder, I am able to import vapoursynth into a python console. "Plex for Windows" still doesn't work. I've tried both copying the mpv-1.dll file and deleting it, the end result is the same. The video plays but doesn't transcode to a frame rate.

These are my env values:

Plex plays normally (ie. it still doesn't work) after I've deleted mpv-1.dll from the Plex folder. Yes I do have Python installed elsewhere.

I've copied over the mpv-1.dll, set up the environment values and also the mpv.conf file.
Here is the content of mpv.conf:

input-ipc-server=mpvpipe
hwdec-codecs=all
hr-seek-framedrop=no
saturation=-100

The removal of saturation works (ie. plex is reading the configuration file) but it won't interpolate. When I open a video file locally with mpv I get interpolation as expected. I don't know what I could be doing wrong.

Hello, are you guys working on this?

Hey guys, I've also followed the instruction for "Plex for Windows" as stated in the wiki (https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/SVP:Plex_Media_Player). It does not work for me. Regular mpv works flawlessly.

Thanks for reply. Is it worth to trade good colors for a 144hz panel? Because i heard that 144hz displays dont have good colors

I didn't get my 144hz panel for SVP. It's worth it for me because of my other use cases and I like how smooth everything is. There are computer stores where in which you can test 144hz panels. For the colours I just use nvidia to calibrate so I get the colours I like. I don't think it's necessarily worth it if you only intend to use it for SVP.

Latest changelog:

Still doesn't work for me. I still need to use my dirty hack.

Tested on: "[HorribleSubs] Eromanga-sensei - 01 [1080p].mkv"

What's your budget? Why not an i7 8700k with a Noctua NH-D15 cooler (make sure your case is large enough)? Maybe get also get a Raijintek Morpheus II heatsink with two Noctua fans to keep your GPU quiet. Remember the more your hardware is working the louder it is. With a setup like this you won't have to upgrade your system in a very long time if you game (I'm still using the i5 2500k).

Sorry if this has been asked to death, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

So I'm a little overwhelmed with the features during install, just wanting to know which software best takes advantage of all the video enhancement features?

MPC-HC x64 is the easiest to use and is very good, if you use madvr you can get better image quality when upscaling (720p video to -> 1080p resolution) but it's not necessary if you are not technical.

mpv is also very good player but can be a bit tricky to set up and it's much more technical than MPC-HC.

Edit: Jesus I just realized this thread is one year old

It might be in the future. The mpv devs did it with the stats.lua

When did they add stats.lua? What's the hotkey for it?

Try running your monitor in 48hz?

I like using Jinc scalers and turning on debanding filter

21

(5 replies, posted in Using SVP)

How would I do that?

22

(5 replies, posted in Using SVP)

Yeah but it still uses encoder options which can be set manually and it uses mpv. It wouldn't be unreasonable if it could use the deband filter which is available in mpv, no?

Is this currently possible? It would be handy to transcode h264 vids to h265 10-bit with such a filter.

New version is out. Has this been fixed yet?
