Also, keep in mind that SVP can't handle high refresh rates without a monster CPU. I have to use custom, low-quality settings for SVP to work at 96hz with my overclocked 4670k + 7950.

So did you stop watching the movie at 04:31?

After performing the latest "maintenance" update with SVP 4 Pro, it seems the installer doesn't recognize the new files it just downloaded:

All the downloaded files seem to be physically there, Avisynth works fine (as the version hasn't changed)... but then these messages pop up:

http://imgur.com/GAwlLJi&9iMcP2j

MadVR, MPC and LAV filters won't install because the installer expects an older version, I think. Their physical install folders are empty.

FYI I'm on a brand new clean install of Windows 10 x64, and I've tried disabling UAC and Windows Defender. I'll happily provide more info, if needed.

There are some scores in the SVPMark database, but here's a 6600k @4.65ghz:
http://cdn.overclock.net/1/1d/1d3ab552_svp.jpeg

A 6700k at 5.0:
http://cdn.overclock.net/2/26/260e926a_ … cried.jpeg

And a 4790k @ 4.7GHz gets ~3100.

Even without hyperthreading, the 6600k has a slight edge... But just barely. Both should OC similarly, but I'd go with with the 6600k if I were you just to get better per-thread performance and the better Z170 platform.

Obviously the 6700k is the chip you want if you can afford it. That score beats some of Intel's newer HEDT chips.

Just tried the new SVP 4 version, works great!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I noticed SVP still interpolates frames before feeding them to MadVR... which is usually better than getting SVP to interpolate upscaled frames, I suppose. However, I remember seeing madshi on the forums awhile back, and was wondering if there are any plans to further integrate SVP and MadVR somehow? I don't expect ya'll to feed motion vector data to MadVR, but some computers (like my Xeon/Quadro 600 workstation, or laptops with weak IGPs) could benefit from an option that lets SVP interpolate MadVR's upscaled frames, shifting more of the load to the CPU and freeing up resources for MadVR's extra effects.

You mean automatically, instead of just pressing the button in the interface?

You should be able to add a little Avisynth resolution check that skips the SVP script above certain resolutions. I don't know what the syntax would look like, but you'd add it in the Avisynth section in the FFDShow raw video filter menu.

High scores in SVPmark is something like 300 fps vs. 250 fps and you don't need fps higher than 144 in a real life smile

Maybe, but if you throw higher quality SVP settings, 1080p video, MadVR, and a 1440p/4k screen into the mix, it brings the fps down tongue

Just to be clear, MadVR processes frames after SVP generates the extra ones, right? Even with an overclocked 4670k/7950, I've had some trouble playing 1080p video on my 1440p/110hz screen, which would mean MadVR is taxing my GPU too much.

Maybe, but fast GPUs do seem to help SVP to some extent. If you look through the SVPMark database, rigs with an R9 Fury will get higher scores than, say, a rig with a 770 and similar CPUs.

Yeah but from what I read the 200 series doesn't fully support DX12 while the 300 series does, but I know the 280x is more powerful..I'm not sure which one to go with tho, which one do you think I should go with?

Neither "fully" supports DX12. The R9 280X (aka the 7970) support DirectX12 feature level 11_1, while the R9 285 (aka the R9 380) supports 12_0. Nvidia's 900 cards support 12_1, future cards may support something else.

ALL of these cards get the performance-boosting API overhead reduction features, and I've personally run the DX12 demo on my 7950 (which is like the 280X). DirectX12 in games is a at least a year away, so it's hard to tell... But the difference is academic at this point.

Personally, I'd go with whichever one is cheaper.

That's close to the other 4790k@4.8 in the thread. What's your single threaded score?

Sadly, no-one has posted a 6700k bench yet.

I  actually changed it to a 380 4GB in hopes that Dx12 gives a boost in performance in games,as for getting a 6600k that would require getting a new motherboard and the ones I've seen only seem to be more than the one I picked out but as you said the I5 4590 should be fine.

The 380 is actually slower than the 280X in most cases. It's just a rebranded R9 285, and both support DX12.

err, i meant 5675C.

They're ~$300 in the States for whatever reason, but cheaper everywhere else.

EDIT: But since I just saw you're using a 280X anyway, that doesn't matter. A 6600k would be ideal, but that i5 you picked would work.

Keep 4.0 installed, and just switch between both versions.

4.0 gives me better results/performance on my hardware, but I still switch to 3.1.7 to tweak certain genres (animation, for example).

I'm a little late to the thread, but...

VLC support is a good idea. MPV/MPC are technically superior... but as davo shows us, most people don't know that, and VLC is FAR, far more popular. I think ya'll should target VLC after the Linux/Mac version, as it would dramatically expand the SVP userbase.

EDIT: Don't quote me on this, but I recently heard something about future versions of VLC opening up, and being able to interact with other components.
