Topic: Solution to a problem with SMPlayer on Wayland

Hello everybody,

I would like to share that I had a problem with SVP 4.7.0.305 running on Kubuntu 7.0.0-38-generic
with SMPlayer
Version: 26.8.29 (revision 10461)
Using Qt 5.15.18 (compiled with Qt 5.15.18)

The problem manifested as:

[cplayer] Setting option 'hwdec' = 'vulkan-copy' (flags = 8)
[cplayer] Setting option 'sub-auto' = 'fuzzy' (flags = 8)
[cplayer] Setting option 'gpu-context' = 'x11egl' (flags = 8)
[cplayer] Option gpu-context: 'x11egl' isn't supported.
[cplayer] Error parsing option gpu-context (option parameter could not be parsed)
[cplayer] Setting commandline option --gpu-context=x11egl failed.
[cplayer] Exiting... (Fatal error)

MPV crashes on play because of missing gpu-context option and whatever I tried to do SMPlayer was still explicitly setting the gpu-context to x11egl...

Output of gpu-api=help:

./mpv --gpu-api=help
Available GPU APIs:
  auto
  vulkan

Available GPU APIs and contexts:
  auto auto
  vulkan waylandvk
  vulkan x11vk
  vulkan displayvk

I solved the problem by commenting the following code in core.cpp:1761 of SMPlayer:

// If using Wayland
    if (qgetenv("XDG_SESSION_TYPE") != "x11") {
        // Trying to prevent the video to be outside the application window
        if (proc->isMPV()) {
            //proc->setOption("gpu-context", "x11egl");
        }
    }

After that I manually set --gpu-context=x11vk in Advanced settings/mpv, otherwise MPV will run in separate window.
And everything works well so far.

I am sharing this in case somebody has similiar problem or if developers of SVP offer better workaround to omit the gpu-context=x11egl when running on wayland

Kind Regards

Re: Solution to a problem with SMPlayer on Wayland

this is more like a pre-built mpv problem
recent update has x11egl built-in

Thank you very much for the fast response. I installed the updated version.
