Topic: Is there a way to optimize SVP for 144Hz monitors without stuttering?

Hi everyone,
I'm using a 144Hz monitor and running SVP to watch movies. When left at default, the quality is quite good, but sometimes there is still a slight frame stutter or it doesn't match the screen refresh rate. I tried adjusting the profile and changing the parameters in SVP but the results were not much different.

Does anyone have a similar problem and know how to configure SVP specifically for 144Hz monitors? I want to keep the motion smooth while avoiding stuttering.

Thanks everyone in advance!

What is your videoplayer?
I recommend to use mpv or MPC-HC.

I’m currently using MPC-HC with madVR. I’ll give MPV a try too since I’ve seen a few people recommend it for smoother playback. Do you think MPV generally handles 144Hz better than MPC-HC when paired with SVP, or is it more about how the settings are tuned?

madVR is very demanding renderer. To paint 144 Frames per second you need powerful GPU.
You can use MPC Video Renderer instead madVR

I stopped using MadVR years ago. MPV is better at all the things MadVR does, it has more features and it is  much more efficient. Out of the box you will get a very good picture. Then it depends how much you wish to explore more advanced features to get the best picture possible. It is text based but there are mpv GUI front end addons. MPC is a basic and reliable player with only basic LAV built in and little if any MadVR/MPV like features. But even without MadVR you will have a great picture depending on the source.

With MPV I can run SVP on the highest settings playing a 4K 3D movie at 240Hz on a 4080 GPU. So 144Hz shouldn't be too difficult depending on your class GPU or CPU if you use CPU processing only. Bottom line is MPV has the better scaling, shader and rendering features, is faster and more efficient but might need some work unless you are happy with the defaults. Check out the SVP MPV manual page for full information on how to install and use it. Otherwise just use MPC-HC and if you are happy with the picture quality then stick with that.
