Topic: Budget Mini PC for 4k

I'm shopping for a Mini PC (prebuilt or barebones) to run Windows and be used as an HTPC that can handle interpolating 4k from 24 to 60fps with good quality. I'm wanting low cost and power consumption.

The Ryzen 5 5600U seems to be a good option. 15W CPU with low cost. The BOSGAME U56 is what I'm looking at that uses it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BHYZ51KY

Anyone have experience with this CPU and SVP? Or have another suggestion?  Thanks

Re: Budget Mini PC for 4k

all those U processors in a small fancy cases will quickly overheat playing 4K and start dropping frequencies

6 cores at _stable_ 4.0 GHz should be enough, 6 cores floating from 4.0 to 2.0 GHz - nope

Re: Budget Mini PC for 4k

Thanks Chainik.

Sounds like the 15w CPU would only be enough if it could run in boost consistently, which it wouldn't be able to do.

The Mac isn't a bad suggestion, but I think I'd rather just go up in size a bit, and look for something with adequate cooling and a 28 or 35w CPU.

I like to use this scatter plot from PassMark to get an idea of performance per watt. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/power_perf … catter-cpu

I'm thinking anything above ~20,000 on PassMark would do well enough for me. Maybe I can find a deal on something with a Ryzen GE or Intel T CPU. (or build one myself)
