Topic: Maintain Quality for Transcoding

Hi,

Whenever I transcode a video (24p - 60p), the resulting file often playback with a lot of block artifacts especially on fast moving scenes. The original video doesn’t have it. I would like to know what is the optimal quality and bitrate settings to use when transcoding.

How do I find out what is the bitrate for the original video?

Do I double up the bitrate if I’m going from 24-60p?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Maintain Quality for Transcoding

the thing is if the source video has a bitrate X and you re-encode it with the same bitrate X - you won't get the same visual quality as the source

Re: Maintain Quality for Transcoding

So what is the recommended bitrate to go for? Should I go for 2.5x if it’s from 24p to 60p?

Also, how do I find out what is the source bitrate?

Re: Maintain Quality for Transcoding

I use automatic setting CRF=18
It gives me constant quality with automatic variable bitrate.
Of course you can select another settings and compare quality yourself.
