Topic: Looking for PC upgrade recommendation for SVP with VR 4k/5k @ 90fps

I currently run a "gaming" PC with Windows 10 64bit, i5 4590 3.3G(turbos to 3.7G) 4 core CPU, 1080ti GPU, 8G RAM. It runs a Pimax 4k VR headset using Whirligig and DeoVR players. I mainly watch (h264)4k and (H265)5k VR videos. I have the SVP software set up and working but my CPU is maxed to 100% at 72fps so I run at 60fps and hit about 95% CPU. I want to be able to hit 90fps or higher and was wondering what kind of CPU upgrade or motherboard/CPU upgrade I would need to accomplish 90fps. I have the 1150 socket and the best CPU for that socket would be i7 4770k 4 core, can overclock to about 4.5. Ive read that more cores the better for SVP and the RyZen are good for that, just not sure if Im ready to swap motherboard/CPU. If Im going to swap motherboards I would like to stay with Intel like the i7 8700k 6 core overclocked to 5G, would it do the job,  Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Well it comes down to budget. I think an 8700k should pull it off with custom (lower) SVP settings, but you could always go HEDT if you're really dead-set on an Intel mobo.

Honestly I don't see why though. Coffee lake mobos use a dead end socket, while AMD confirmed that Zen 2 will work on current AM4/TR4 motherboards if you want to swap CPUs in the far future. X399 is actually pretty upgradeable since you can get really high core count chips, but it costs an arm and a leg.

SVP is very good with many cores. I have a Ryzen 7 1700 @3.8Ghz and it never even goes above 40% with SVP activated

Thanks for the reply. What fps are you able to squeeze out of your system. Im looking for higher fps for 4k VR, like 90fps.

My budget is ballpark $700 for mobo and CPU. Ive never owned an AMD so thats the only reason I wanted to stay with Intel, Im not really sure if I could swap my memory, HD , power supply etc etc to an AMD mobo, and if I needed to reload Windows and all my software, hopefully not?? Ive never done a mobo swap.

Sounds like I would be pushing the limits of the 8700k, plus if Im going to upgrade mobo and CPU I would like to future proof for a couple years for when higher VR resolutions are available, so the 8700k is probably not going to be a good choice.

The x399 mobo's look like they go for about $300, any particular model or brand I should look out for with WIFI, USB 3.0? That leaves me with about $300 to $400 for a CPU and fan, any suggestions? Thanks!

AMD motherboard with B350 or B450 chipset and Ryzen or Ryzen 2 CPU would be OK. People bought AMD packs like these year ago and they are stll future proof and will be upgradeable next year too or even longer.
