Topic: Very New - Watching 24fps => 165fps too much?

Hello all, I'm very new here. I apologize if I'm asking something that you might have answered before. If someone could guide me towards properly setting this up, I'd greatly, greatly appreciate it.

First, my rig is as follow:

i5-3570k @ 4.4Ghz OC
16 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 1070
Acer monitor @ 165hz OC
HP 27xi monitor @ 60hz

I am currently trying out SVP 4  Free, and in love with it so far and plan to buy the Pro version. My questions are this:

1) I watch mainly anime and shows (MKV, MP4) at either 720p, 1080p @ 24 fps. I've downloaded PotPlayer, SVC 4 Free, LAV Codec, and MadVR. Will these be all I need?

2) The smoothness is beautiful on my 60 fps monitor. But instead of 60hz, should I buy Pro and set target rate at 48 fps (2x of 24 fps), or 72 fps on my 165hz monitor?

3) I remember fidgeting CPU thread/core either in SVP, MadVR, or PotPlayer.... not sure exactly which. But for my CPU (i5-3570k), what would be the ideal number to set this as?

4) Most importantly, when I try to watch 1080p @ 24 fps anime on my 165hz monitor, SVP renders 165 fps. My SVP Index, instead of staying 1.0, drops to around 0.72 - 0.82 and video/sound begin to desync. Does that mean my rig is incapable of rendering that high fps? CPU goes up to around 80% - 85%, while GPU never exceed 40%, so I figured it should be able to handle a bit more. Or is something fundamentally wrong with my settings?

Thank you for your time. Again, I apologize for elementary questions - there has been a lot I've learn in the past 24 hours.... from regular Windows Media Classic + some codecs, now to PotPlayer + SVP + madVR + ReClock (not even sure what this is for). I am quite overwhelmed right now, and I hope someone can help guide me through this as if I was 5 years old. Cheers!

SVP doesn't like "non standard" monitor refresh rates, e.g.
- 24*6 = 144 - best
- 24*7 = 168 - best
- 24*13/2 = 156 - good
- 24*55/8 = 165 - bad

Re: Very New - Watching 24fps => 165fps too much?

ReClock is be(a)st for watching on close to optimal fps. For example:
24 -> 72 fps (svp) -> slow down audio and video to 70Hz with reclock
24*7 -> 168 -> slowdown to 165

Re: Very New - Watching 24fps => 165fps too much?

I just said that SVP 4 Free running on 165 Hz screen will (probably) set FRC rate = 55:8, which is not good at all.
So just try it with more "comfortable" refresh rates like 144 or 156.

Re: Very New - Watching 24fps => 165fps too much?

I removed overclock so monitor refresh rate is down to 144hz. Still getting massive frame lag (run up to only ~80 fps).

I changed option in PotPlayer from madVR filter to Enhanced Video Renderer (Customer Present). Seems to run at 144 fps fine now... but CPU usage is still 60-70%.

Again, I'm completely new at this... perhaps I botched up settings on both madVR and SVP somehow.

Re: Very New - Watching 24fps => 165fps too much?

If you get Pro, you can use MPV or one of the other vapoursynth players being tested ATM. That saved me about 20℅ CPU usage, which was enough to make a big difference at 96hz.

MPV also has most of the options MadVR has.

so it's a question to madVR

this's normal value
