Topic: Unexpected character

When trying to use SVP the video starts, but instead of getting smooth video I get the video playing normally with the text

unexpected character '†'

in the upper right corner.

Re: Unexpected character

It's most likely an old ffdshow version.
Try to install ffdshow from the SVP distribution.

Re: Unexpected character

I am using the ffdshow version that comes wiht SVP.

Re: Unexpected character

Then try to remove ffdshow, erase its registry keys

- HKLM/Software/GNU/ffdshow
- HKCU/Software/GNU/ffdshow

install it again and reboot.

Re: Unexpected character

Thank you, this fixed it.

As a further question: Is it OK to upgrade the version of madVR that comes with SVP full to the newer one? 'Cause the one that comes with SVP has compatibility issues with CrossFire.

Re: Unexpected character

Great!

One last question before I completely wear out my welcome: Seeing as even wiht 1080p24 I barely get a CPU usge of 40% are there any settings I can change to get more quality at the cost of performance? I am using whatever it sets as the defaults.

Re: Unexpected character

Search type: exhaustive
Accuracy: to half-pixel
Block size: 16x16 with 0.25 overlapping
Recalculation of vectors: yes

It easily can load i7 or X6 up to 80-90%.
And if not then set "block size" to 8x8 big_smile

But remember that highest settings is not always better in quality.

Re: Unexpected character

Thanks. It wasn't hard to get my poor i5 up to 80-90% usage for 1080p, and even 720p. For SD content I seem to be able to use all those settings without problems.

Re: Unexpected character

unexpected character '†'  may appear after installing svp.
restarting windows solve this error  big_smile
