Topic: Intel I7 4770 vs Intel I5 4590 Svp performance difference?

So I'm building my first pc ever and I wanted to know if I take the I5 over the Xeon E3 1231V3(which is basically a I7 4770 without the igpu),would I be missing out on any performance gains?I know the Xeon() has multithreading so that would be 8 threads in total(4 cores) and I see that svp always likes more cores/threads so I was wondering.I know overall that the Xeon is more powerful but I don't want to spend an extra $50 on something I don't need.I'm also building this pc for gaming but that's besides the point.Here's a link to the build I'm planning to build (the xeon is subject to change depending on what responses I get here lol) : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hmrbgs

Few people use Xeons, so you probably would have been better asking for the performance difference between an i5-4590 and an i7-4770.

The idea is that people might see that your thread title says "Xeon" and they decide to not even click your thread because they have no idea about Xeons even though they're pretty much the same as an i7 but without overclocking, lower clockrate, and have more features.


However, a Xeon does lack an iGPU which could be useful if you're going to use MadVR - that way you can have SVP use your iGPU while MadVR uses your discrete GPU.  In that case maybe it'd be better to ask about an i7-4770 but mention that it's actually its Xeon equivalent and therefore doesn't have an iGPU.

Ok thanks alot for the reply,I revised the name of the thread as you said I should have done,now for a quick question:the Igpu(ntel HD graphics 4600) would that be enough for 60fps@1080p playback?(I am assuming it will be since you suggested using the igpu for svp,most likely gonna be using the settings recommend on the svp website for anime) If so I'll get that instead and try doing what you said with the discrete GPU and Madvr.

If you're going to be using only the iGPU then maybe it would be wise to look into Broadwell or Skylake?

For reference...

GPU: Broadwell > Skylake > Haswell
CPU: Skylake > Broadwell / Haswell (due to clockrate)

err, i meant 5675C.


They're ~$300 in the States for whatever reason, but cheaper everywhere else.


EDIT: But since I just saw you're using a 280X anyway, that doesn't matter. A 6600k would be ideal, but that i5 you picked would work.

I  actually changed it to a 380 4GB in hopes that Dx12 gives a boost in performance in games,as for getting a 6600k that would require getting a new motherboard and the ones I've seen only seem to be more than the one I picked out but as you said the I5 4590 should be fine.

The 380 is actually slower than the 280X in most cases. It's just a rebranded R9 285, and both support DX12.

Yeah but from what I read the 200 series doesn't fully support DX12 while the 300 series does,but I know the 280x is more powerful..I'm not sure which one to go with tho,which one do you think I should go with?

If I remember it correctly, I heard DX12 has best performance among all DX versions for gaming. It saves about ~20% CPU performance (or GPU? ).

Neither "fully" supports DX12. The R9 280X (aka the 7970) support DirectX12 feature level 11_1, while the R9 285 (aka the R9 380) supports 12_0. Nvidia's 900 cards support 12_1, future cards may support something else.

ALL of these cards get the performance-boosting API overhead reduction features, and I've personally run the DX12 demo on my 7950 (which is like the 280X). DirectX12 in games is a at least a year away, so it's hard to tell... But the difference is academic at this point.


Personally, I'd go with whichever one is cheaper.

Hmm,they are both the same price lol but the 280x one has 1 gb less of vram than the 380 I chose...but the 280x has more raw power(was mainly getting the extra Vram for future proofing and skyrim modding since from what I've read seems to use alot of Vram and will CTD if there isn't enough).
