Topic: 3D 1080p 120FPS frame sequential
Hi everyone,
I have an extensive 3D bluray collection, far more sizeable than my flat movie collection. And I have dreamed of being able to watch them in smoother frame rates than 24fps, because I have felt for some time they are "choppy" - the 3D effect is so satisfying, but the framerate is noticeably distracting at times.
I have finally been able to afford and purchase a projector capable of 1080p 60fps 3D. In this case, it is the BenQ TK710STI.
And excitedly, I downloaded the trial of SVP4, and have over the last week tried every combination of 3D modes and compatible players to try and make my dream come true.
I have heard that some 3D TVs can support 1080p 60fps 3D by being sent a double width side-by-side or double height over-under image. Eg, 3840x1080 or 1080x2160, and then the TV interprets that correctly as 1080p 60fps.
However, the only 3D mode that can achieve 1080p 60fps 3D on my projector is 1080p 120fps frame sequential.
It does support SBS and TAB modes, but those will be at half resolution. I have watched a few minutes of 3D bluray footage at half-resolution, and while the smoothness of the video was so good, the half-resolution was a noticeable drawback as well, and I think too much of a drawback unfortunately.
MPC-BE has no option for frame sequential, and I have tried every combination of settings possible on PotPlayer.
I couldn't coerce Stereoscopic Player into doing what I wanted, and it was very difficult to get blurays to play in it regardless.
So, tonight, I tried my hand at modifying the base.avs script in the SVP4 appdata directory.
Specifically, the line that StackVerticals the two "eyes" when running SVP4 in 3D Over-Under mode.
I tried experimenting with adding AssumeFPS(120) (at first on the same line and also after the input=last line), and changing StackVertical to Interleave(lf, rf), in the hope that it would play frame 1 from left eye, frame 1 from right eye, frame 2 from left eye, frame 2 from right eye, etc, at double speed (120fps).
And while some combinations seem to get half way there (half speed frame sequential, or glitchiness, etc), it doesn't work properly....
When looking at the info window in MPC-BE, it says the video is 60fps.
So obviously I am doing something wrong.
Does anyone have any clues or tips on how to get full-frame 1080p 120fps frame sequential working with SVP4?
Thank you to anyone who has any ideas or advice.
