Topic: Using AutoHDR for Video Playback.

Microsoft has a cool feature that uses a screen space shader to convert SDR games to HDR. The end result is surprisingly good. I'm wondering of there is a way to get this to work for video. It would be awesome for us who are watching on HDR displays.

From my understanding, AutoHDR is run purely has a shader and does not need any information other than screen space pixel brightness values. The algorithm is using machine learning. I don't see a technical reason why this wouldn't work.

An easy way I think we can get this to work is to fool windows into thinking that the video player is a game, but I have no idea how to do this.

Any suggestions or plans to getting AutoHDR to work for video?

Re: Using AutoHDR for Video Playback.

it won't work on most video players.

but you can try MPV player, with the default config it will upscale SDR content to HDR content. Require HDR to turn on first.

or you can manually turn it on with specific configs
