Oh I kinda figured it out.  It seems that the Subtitle setting from the FFDSHOW RAW VIDEO FILTER is screwing up the subtitles.  I only needed to uncheck it, Add and Prefer Haali Media Splitter and DirectVobSub in the MPC External Filters and leave the LAV splitter settings alone.

For some reason, I have been having problems with subtitles not showing up properly.  I was watching an anime with a stylized subtitle (i.e. Railgun) which was supposed to look like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3shsgKbd_M) but instead, the subtitles show up like wall of code and slows down svp to a crawl (see attachment).  Is there any way to fix this or probably get mpc to use the autoloading version of directvobsub?
