Hi Maken1. Do you use  fullscreen exclusive mode in MadVR? I use windowed mode there are no problem, but everytime i switch to fullscreen exclusive mode, there are a lot of frames drop. How can i fix this? sad

hi, how you been?
No, I don't , you can just disable it, disable it.

im having problem trying to edit, even if I try to Preview or Submit, I get this " HTTP 500 Internal Server Error " .  cant update now because of that, idk if is this crap network or I have to try in another comp with other isp.

Sorry. We can't get previous content of edited message. I recommend to save its copy locally in your computer.

Hi MAG79, how you been? alright no problem then, in some part was my bad and in other not, I was working in other comp/network and leave backup there , my network not that good, tried to update something and plop got disconnection while saving and lost all my changes sad , now re-editing again, resuming some stuffs and making few backups to avoid this again.  Thx friend hope another nice update for SVP when its ready.

Hola Maken.

ffsss got a problem here SVP Team, by internet problem I was editing my thread then submit and I lost connection in the process and just saved half of what I did :S , now I lost all, I need to re-edit some stuffs again, my backup is else where ( no this comp ). Any change I can recover all or I just need to edit again ? thx

vuquanghai
No, I did not mean that, that's different thing friend.

I knew it.. lets say you are abusing madvr settings and violating your gpu smile

Before continue with MadVR settings and it Scaling Algorightms ( recommended settings ) I want to show you something just to give you idea more or less what to do depending of your preferences and files to use with this awesome Video Renderer. After this the " recommended settings " will be done by yourself, you will take mine as point to start.
We are in 2015 at this point the codec had been improved so much, video files are more smaller than before and with more quality, and the more bigger ones looks more stunning with their high video bitrate and more. Im fan of that kind of material, I used to find the best I could for collection, this mean you will do same only if that movie, anime, etc is your favourite right ? Problem is that many of us still have old comp hardware or slow internet ( for now im included in that list sadly  neutral ) for as much we like the best quality that's one of the most reason many of you will stop of downloading those high quality and bigger files in " Gigas " , reasons? well not enough patient to wait who knows how many hours / days to get it. The best option is going for small size in Megas or Gigas movies, animes and more to get them fast and the price to pay is have less image quality. You go get 360p in the worse cases video clips, animes and 480p DvDrips of the same, also 720p why not with low video bitrate as well then is when come MadVR as the best solution to minimize some the low quality. With a combination of Scaling Algorithms and settings you can achieve very good results!.

360p, 480p and 720p

Use the next examples as " an idea of how it work " in some scenerarios. Use " image upscaling " as default for anything less than 1080p

Without MadVR > http://i.minus.com/iX7ezOXrSK2YO.jpg

MadVR > scaling algorithms > image upscaling > Lanczos + 4 taps and anti-ringing filter activated:
                          http://i.minus.com/idElmFqeWGMgB.jpg
MadVR > scaling algorithms > image upscaling > SoftCubic + softness 70 and scale in linear light activated:

MadVR > scaling algorithms > image upscaling > Mitchell-Netravali > anti-ringing filter and scale in linear light activated:

You can use " image doubling " but it need a very powerful GPU to make it better, some sharpening filters and more to make results better but all of that have high price: need decent GPU with decent power. Some settings + SVP can be killer resulting in insane framedrops, that's why its up to you find what are the best settings depending of your hardware capabilities and smooth quality tastes. Make some balancing between MadVR and SVP, leave some free room for both to don't stress too much your GPU and have decent framerates and performance while playing your stuffs. You could use your CPU if its powerful for SVP and leave GPU for MadVR but its well known that in SVP GPU acceleration enabled is better.

I used my MadVR's previous setting with SVP and ~100 frame dropped/second lol big_smile

I wonder.. what kind of files and abused settings you were using... ? smile

I recommend keep cpu always bellow 80%.

Update 3

-Added basic madVR settings in Extras

1- That profile is ok for 720p and your hardware. Change " SVP shader " to " 13. Standard ( default ) ". But if you like 23. Complicated, leave it as its then.  Change " Motion vectors precision: " to " One pixel " like minimum because your hardware can handle it. Try " Half pixel (default) " and if you don't have performance lost with it then keep it, otherwise use " One Pixel ".

2- There is not problem with that, all is running ok there, if there is a serious drops / performance lost it will show it as well.

you re already using GPU acceleration.. right ? use more does not mean you will get more performance or lower CPU usage, all depend, also I cant help much because I don't kn ow what kind of file are you playing, what settings in Svp profiles are you using and I don't know your hardware specs.

press Tab in potplayer shows some info but what you want you get It if you right click on potplayer, go to filters then click on EVR CP

Update 2

-Added Extra
-Added the use of LAV Video Decoder ( optional ) for PotPlayer in Extra

vuquanghai

- install the most recent beta and remember uninstall 1.6.51480 before install beta.
- yes, dont need to config, just keep it installed that's all. Even if you decide to don't use SVP anymore ( it will be sad ), don't uninstall it. You could need it later.

Is this guide totally complete?

Some more question:
- Can i use LAV Splitter Source in source/spitter at Potplayer? What is different between LAV Splitter Source and LAV Splitter?
- Why your PotPlayer setting is different with mine? Include some default settings with "Recommended". I'm using PotPlayer 1.6.51480
- If i use ffdShow, so should i not need to use DXVA and un-tick this option. Is that rigth?
- What is Avisynth use for? I don't see anywhere you talk about Avisynth

hi

1-Is this guide totally complete?
No, but right now you have all the necessary settings to start using PotPlayer with SVP. Some other things that are optional will be added later.

2- Can i use LAV Splitter Source in source/spitter at Potplayer? What is different between LAV Splitter Source and LAV Splitter?
You can try to see what happen but better use the recommended " LAV Splitter ". Even if you check other guides its the same they set " LAV Splitter " only.

3- Why your PotPlayer setting is different with mine? Include some default settings with "Recommended". I'm using PotPlayer 1.6.51480
Because im using Beta and your version is not beta. If you go for beta, uninstall the not beta. You can update installing betas over betas without need of uninstall, your previous setting will be keep, but still you can make a backup just in case. Ill edit main op and put the use of betas as optional or recommended.

4- If i use ffdShow, so should i not need to use DXVA and un-tick this option. Is that rigth?
ffdShow raw video filter is needed to make SVP work, but when this is active DXVA and DXVA2 copy-back in PotPlayer not work, keep it un-tick. Don't worry much about it, the PotPlayer video decoders are good too and give decent performance.

5- What is Avisynth use for? I don't see anywhere you talk about Avisynth
I cant give a more in deep answer about this, but just know its something really importat that SVP need to work too.

vuquanghai wrote:

I usual watch a bluray video encoded at 720p with bitrate ~ more than 8000 kbps and anime + tv show, what video renderer should i take? EVR CP or MadVR?
BLuray encoded with a higher bitrate than anime and tv show, am i need to switch between renderers usually?

Use EVR CP, it will give you performance, quality and will allow you use more settings in SVP that are more GPU dependant keeping it at decent usage. If your GPU is powerful enough you can use MadVR, increase more taps for example for better results of the upscaling but keep an eye on GPU usages, you don't want it to go too high when you use SVP because some settings you like cant be stable resulting in framedrops/performance lost.

I use MadVR for DVDs, anime 720p or 848x480 resolutions + so so bitrate. Also 1920x1080 with low bitrate but I rarely play that kind of files, only if I don't have more options. I try always to get decent quality then use EVR CP for increase performance and have more free room to play with SVP.

what is different between smooth motion of MadVR and SVP?
madVR's smooth motion is frame blending.
SVP does frame interpolation with motion compensation.

Thanks for the help  smile

Hi, what version are you using? its x86? are you downloading official or beta from the link provided by my guide? im sure you re missing something from the steps.

vuquanghai wrote:

Hi Maken 1, can you tell me what is different between smooth motion of MadVR and SVP? Those functions all play video at 60 fps  smile

Hi as far as I know the smooth motion from MadVR does original source frame ( 23.976,24,25,etc ) x2 only .SVP does the same and with custom profiles you can make x2 or 60 and more but with better results. PotPlayer can do the same but only x2 of the original source frames and it does lots of ugly artifacts meh hmm and its not as good as SVP anyway but wait this one smooth the " hard scenes " but again the price is ugly artifacts im sure no one will like or? roll . I prefer use SVP only for smooth.

Internet service restore. ill dedicate all this week to update/upload the guide, keep in touch.

hi , see if you like this:
- in the custom profile you like to test or use more, go to " Processing of scene changes: " then select " Blend adjacent frames ".  Thing is it make that scene kinda blurry, like motion blur when it happen and you can minimize that some increasing " Motion vectors grid " ( if your cpu can handle go for 12 px or 8 px ) but it will cause more " artifacts ". its up to you.
I dont worry much about artifacts at this point, i prefer more smooth. if you dont like it at the end wait for SVP Team recommendation

Edit: ohh there is one player that always smooth not matter the scene but it cause lots of artifact to can do that. At the end for now somethings are about trade between less artifact but less smooth and more smooth but more artifacts. you have to make a choise and get use to it.  When i tried SVP for first time , never experienced artifacts and it was bothering me so much, i was trying to do all i could to minimize them as much as possible but i ended making less smooth, when i try to make it more smooth again then more artifacts were present. After all this time, i dont care much artifacts trust me, there will be moment you will prefer more smooth than anything without worry much about it.
