from my experience it's exactly opposite, artifacts are less noticeable in 3d

I don't have that much experience of converting 3d movies yet so it may be that the artifacts are actually less noticeable. I have tried different settings to find the best smoothness and least artifacts combination.
I have also found out that some movies have really smooth and nice 3d even in 24fps and some movies (like Hobbit 3D) are really really bad in 24fps and only slightly better in 60 fps. Although it makes Hobbit at least watchable.
