What is your monitors refresh rate?
If its 60hz change to x2 frame rate and if you have a high hz monitor check to make sure its not running at 60hz.

My monitor is 60Hz, I overclocked it too 71.928Hz though, but that's not what I am asking about, did you even read my post? The issue I am experiencing is: dropped frames while using MadVR.

I did read your post.
I asked because if your refresh rate is lower than the video FPS the video player will drop the extra frames or it can cause stuttering etc.
Was just trying to rule that out as a issue of your dropped frames.

C2d?

It's short for Core 2 Duo

If your willing to, you could convert the video to 60fps in advance then watch it.

How?

There is a thread about it here: http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2570

Would use MPV but doesn't seem to support madvr.

What do you want from madvr that stopping you from using MPV?
MPV can do a fair bit of what madvr does already.

I like the highly customisable scaling algorithms and edge enhancement where I can dial in just the right amount of sharpness and de-ringing filters to get the image just popping nicely without enhancing compression artefacts too much.   It's a delicate balance.   My only complaint is that it doesnt support gsync in windowed mode so I will give MPV a try and maybe some others too.

Thanks again

Based on that, you could use something like this in your MPV config file:

# Scaling #
scale=ewa_lanczossharp
cscale=ewa_lanczossoft
dscale=mitchell
scale-antiring=0.7
cscale-antiring=0.7
dither-depth=auto
correct-downscaling=yes
sigmoid-upscaling=yes
deband=yes

# Sharpen  # Only really need to use one of these
opengl-shaders="~~/shaders/adaptive-sharpen.glsl"              # user-script for adaptive sharpen / edge sharpen
sharpen=0.4

Full list of options can be found here: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#opengl-renderer-options
It can be a bit overwhelming at first but its fairly configurable and the fact that your already familiar with madvr should make it a lot easier for you to work out exactly what scaling options you want.

Nope, same exact result.

It wouldn't happen to make a difference how I am opening the video, would it?  For testing purposes I'm just dragging an MP4 video directly onto the mpv.exe (which then launches the aforementioned MP4 in mpv without dealing with any file accusations).

Yeah that would make no difference at all.

You could always just upload a checksum file created via HashCheck Shell Extension (which would also make things much easier on my side).

If you do go this route, note that MD4 is the fastest to compute (if that's relevant to you).

I noticed it was last updated in 2009 for windows 7.
I'm using Win10x64 so no idea if that would cause any issues or not installing that.

Anyway, I just put my mpv64 folder into a rar file and uploaded it.

Link: removed - no longer needed

Just note 2 of the files stats.lua(scripts dir) and adaptive-sharpen.glsl(shaders dir) are not default files.

stats.lua - Press shift + I (OSD for playback information, shows dropped frames, framerate, etc)
adaptive-sharpen.glsl - is luma adaptive-sharpen, but wont do anything unless you set to use in via your .config file.

I'm a complete mpv newbie, so I've no idea what to make of this; for reference the following files are in fact present in the mpv directory:

VapourSynth.dll
VSScript.dll
mpv-1.dll

Is that the whole log? sounds like its missing something. (namely a missing file)

Try reinstall VapourSynth/MPV and are you using the MPV64 build from the SVP installer?

Namely these?
- [VPS_64] Core for Vapoursynth 64-bit
- [VPS_64] mpv video player

It will display the source FPS, regardless of the extra frames generated from SVP.
The video file/filter specifies "24fps" in other words.

madvr showing the source fps(24fps) on its osd(ctrl+j) is correct.

Using EVR or madVR doesn't matter too much in terms of SVP working.
Make sure SVP is set on, to do frame rate conversion.

The main thing is to have ffdshow raw ticked under external filters and set to prefer.

You can see SVP working on the main GUI window, with more information about playback on the Performance monitor Tab.

SVP will show "No active playback" otherwise.

It use to but is no longer the case, it seems to reset to no subs with every video currently.
This behavior has only been happening since the last SVPtube2 update.

A bit more info in regards to this.

On more testing it would seem some videos will default to no subs every time, even if they have English subs.

It just so happened to be the videos I watched after updating were videos which default to no sub.

I'm thinking maybe its something to do with the subs been named differently which is causing this?
IE some been named en and others eng

I can supply some video examples from youtube if needed.

Is it possible to set English subs to default? (or which ever language you want)
This use to stick but ever since the last SVPtube2 update, it now changes back to no subs with each new video you play.
Having, tube > prefer > subs > en (this doesn't seem to effect SVPtube2 either and still defaults to no subs)

Also twitch.tv streams result in a vapoursynth error, avisynth works fine.

Lastly can SVPtube2 be set to not auto hide its window?
It would be useful for when running play lists so you can jump to the next video.

I wonder how much GPU load you have during playback, maybe madVR is putting too much load on it.

Can you try using a different DirectShow Video? (Not madVR for testing purposes)

Edit: Nevermind I noticed you have tried that already.

Your system is very close to mine in terms of CPU/GPU power and I have no problems with 120FPS.
For reference I'm using 6700k@4.2Ghz, 16gb ram and a R9 390. OS, is Win10 x64

In Svp Settings:

Threads Used "Auto"

Your i7-4790K has 4cores/8threads.
Auto may not be using enough threads or not correctly identifying your CPU.

8 threads * 1.8 = 14.4,
So try setting threads to 15, hopefully that will fix your issue.
120fps should work just fine, as should 12px for motion vectors with your setup.

You will likely find you can now also turn back on Decrease Grid Step without dropping frames which is a huge CPU hog, especially with global refinement.
If you do turn it back on I would just use local refinement as it uses far less resources than global which is not much of a improvement IMO.

is there a way to stop the refresh rate on my GTZ970 from changing itself to 60Hz on my 120Hz monitor?

This is a known Nvidia issue, when your GPU driver updates it resets back to 60hz. They really need to fix this as its annoying.
For now each time you update your driver just go and set it back to 120hz after each update.
Using frame rates higher than your refresh rate will result in video skips/jumps, frame drops etc.

Can you tell me if 2015 Macbook Air processor - i7-5650U is good enough for 1080p?

Even 2016 Macbook pro has i7-6660U, i7-6567U with only 1 configuration (15 inch) has i7-6920HQ.

If almost all Apple hardware even 2016 hardware has bad incompatible processor then what was the motivation making SVP 4 Mac? I am just curious.

Its not so much Mac but all ultra-books in general including PC based, suffer from slower CPUs due to heat and limited power usage.
For 60fps@1080p the 5650U, 6660U and 6567U are likely to disappoint, based on what you want.
The 6920HQ, while I haven't use one is far superior than the others you listed and would think can play 1080p@60 without too many issues.

ricouzuki wrote:

1080p should be ok but running 4k@60 will likely take a very fast desktop based CPU+GPU

Edit: Just tried a 4k video and the CPU just sits at 100% usage on all cores with poor playback.
System used: i7 6700k @ 4.5ghz /w r9 390
Video used: 3840 x 2160 @ 120mbps (h.264)

It would seem current CPUs are just not fast enough for 4k.
