Topic: What's wrong with this particular file?

Since I have found SVP I have watched at least 50 movies (more actually) or shows and never had a problem with any of them, until now. I downloaded a file, which I can't name obviously, which is so ignorant to run properly with SVP. The problem is the file runs sometimes, and when it runs SVP effects are very minimal, and sometimes SVP would show message that lower your profile, high CPU usage or some sort of thing!

Below is the file's details, do tell me if you see if there is anything wrong with the file,

http://i.imgur.com/zRnVNiX.jpg

The CPU usage is indeed high! But why? With other files the usage is 25-30% max!

And here is another file, which runs just fine, just for example,

So what's wrong with the first file, if there is anything at all that is? Why SVP can't run that file properly like other files?

I have uninstalled SVP, installed the updated version of madVR and MPC-HC, then reinstalled SVP, all same sad

Thanks in advance.

PS: Forgot to mention my system specs, it's i7 950 running at stock clock (3.07 GHz), 8 GB memory and GTX970 STRIX.

which I can't name obviously

no file - no ideas  big_smile
at least post here "last launch log" and screenshot of the "Performance graphs" window

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

Perhaps it is "Scan type: MBAFF". So 25 fps converted to 50 by decoder. And you have twice more frames in the second at input of SVP, twice more CPU load.
Does that video has 50 different pictures in the second? hmm

Well it's a TV show, that's all I can say. Let's call it ABC.mkv big_smile

Where to find this last launch log and performance graphs? Not in front of PC at this moment.

Perhaps! I don't know.

I don't understand the last line!

Turn off SVP, press Ctrl+J to see renderer stats. How many frames-per-second it will show?

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

There are some videos that I have that don't work with SVP. It's 30fps interlaced, but it actually de-interlaces as 60fps. It plays 60fps without SVP, but if SVP is on, it lags.

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

I'm going to theorize that it's because the first video is 25fps and you're interpolating to 60hz.  Interpolating 25fps to 60hz should theoretically be more CPU-intensive than interpolating 24fps into 60hz.

There are two solutions to this.

1. Make separate profiles for 24fps, 25fps, and 30fps; you may even have to set 25fps to "1m (average mode)" for performance reasons.

2. With MadVR or MPC-HC, use the built-in resolution-changer to change your screen refreshrate to something that is a multiple of 25 (50hz, 75hz, 100hz, etc)

yeah, by 25/24 = 4%

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

Maybe something wonky going on with the h.264 hardware decoding?  You could try a different decoder.

Using this guide for reference:
http://svp-team.com/wiki/SVP:MPC-HC

Instead of "DVXA2 (copy-back)" select one of the following...

  • "Intel QuickSync"if you have a recent Intel CPU (last 4 years)

  • "NVIDIA CUVID" if you have an Nvidia GPU that isn't 10 years old

I wonder why he can't name the file?  lol
OK, we're all adults here.

Try to guess the top referring subreddit wink

I have attached the screenshot. What do you see there?

Because it's a file which I have downloaded from Torrent, it's not something which I have paid for. That's why I am not naming the file, that's a rule right?

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

you can send me .torrent in private wink
it's not a crime

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

So just to clarify, is it safe to assume you're using an AMD CPU with an AMD GPU?

I mentioned my system spec in OP mate. Its a i7 950 CPU and Asus GTX970 GPU, with 8 gigs of RAM. I very much know that this CPU is damn old, but that old that it can't handle SVP and madVR?

PS: Anyway, just installed the latest Nvidia driver, there was an update pop up for pretty long. Don't know whether this will make any change or not, but let's see.

One more thing, I just want to install everything freshly, could someone guide me to install MPC-HC, madVR with SVP?

Oh gosh I feel like an idiot now, how the heck did I miss that?!  I get quite annoyed when I post things in the first post of a thread and people end up missing it, and I've made that very mistake!  sad

A million apologies, I am terribly sorry.

ithehappy wrote:

It's not old at all, just not recent.  I was running an Athlon 64 x2 4800+ as my main PC's CPU up until 6 months ago due to the mobo dying, and even now I'm only running a Pentium G3258.

Nevertheless, you have an Nvidia GPU, so try setting LAVfilter's decoder to "NVIDIA CUVID".

If you're fine with codec pack, I posted one how to install from fresh. This link

Are the lags happened when you're playing it full screen?
How about windowed player?

I've experienced like yours sometimes for some files, but the different is, my PC are just medium spec.

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

...why would you need to install a codec pack when MPC-HC comes with LAVfilters?

Re: What's wrong with this particular file?

... because you don't want to install mpc-hc, ffdshow and madVR separately?

Nah, the easiest would be take SVP package and install it, big_smile

I was experiencing lower performance without the codec pack and then performance got better after re-installing it, but I'd love to hear other people's feedback on this.
